Let’s go from macro to micro:

This ex-ecology teacher spent much time in the field

and on-line with geography graphics of all kinds.

Often we would do in-depth study of topographical, astronomical,

meteorological and ecological data before the field work.

Later, in the field, the maps, compasses and notebooks would come out

as the basic relationships were reinforced and we

interacted with numerous aspects of that environment.

Access through WhatsApp gives you a great back-up if you get lost.

Basically, once you’ve headed up from the pavement you can’t make any mistakes.

About 4 km up there’s a “Y” where you turn right and go 1 km further.

Then look for the wooden gate on the right on top,

just before the next “Y” and the Eucalyptus trees.

La Esperanza can best be accessed from the Morro Amarillo side.

Partly, the route is more direct, but also because we are

getting sections of road paved both sides. As they move that work back and

forth from one side to the other, we have at least one side always open.

The same goes for days with landslides.
