OUR MAIN OBJECTIVES

Conservation of native Andean Forest. This is our bottom line.

Despite all of our infra-structure work, scientific activities and educational activities,

saving this small area of Andean forest at this 1800-2100 meter altitude is unique,

given that most lower-altitude forests have been destroyed

for agriculture or urban/suburban development.

Inventory, monitoring and study of the ecosystem and its’ biodiversity.

Little formal work has been done to date. We do have numerous individuals

contributing to the inventory and monitoring side over considerable time period.

Although colleagues were regularly visiting the site for several decades beforehand,

since our first purchases in 2011 we’ve had consistent records kept.

The best place to review our 14000 records and 3500 species is at iNaturalist:

Education of local and national school students.

For a group who specialized in field ecological education,

the delays on the education side have been frustrating.

Partly this is due to my own protectiveness of

teaching in the field as that personal specialty.

Sometime over the next 1-2 years I’ll start sessions with local teachers

to familiarize them with my preferred field and laboratory techniques.
